2018-2022
When General Motors announced a bold vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion, Cadillac responded with an equally ambitious program for 2030. The Cadillac Halo Portfolio is a flagship initiative spanning several years of research and development. This suite of fully autonomous electric vehicles is designed for the ultra-high net worth individual who emphasizes the value of time above all else. A seamless, multi-sensory experience was vital to the Halo vision from the very beginning.
I led the customer experience for the Cadillac Halo Concept Portfolio from the initial concept. Work began in 2018 by conducting research, developing customer journey maps, and storyboarding the unique experience for each vehicle. I created all interface and screen content and worked closely with technology vendors to integrate biometric sensors, photo experience cameras, eye-tracking, gesture sensors, voice recognition, haptic feedback, immersive audio, timed scent diffusers, and custom exterior and interior lighting animations. I also designed the mobile applications used to run each experience demonstration. I had the privilege of presenting each vehicle experience to senior leadership at General Motors, including the CEO and President, as well as members of the press and VIPs from around the world.
SocialSpace
The suite began with the Cadillac SocialSpace, an expansive luxury vehicle seating up to six guests. The vehicle processes passenger biometric data to adjust interior humidity, lighting, audio, and cabin scent in real time, creating a personalized environment that adapts to the mood and wellness of everyone aboard.
PersonalSpace
The Cadillac PersonalSpace took autonomy vertical. A single-seat electric aircraft designed for short urban trips, it reimagines the commute as a moment of calm above the noise of the city. An integrated HUD keeps the passenger informed about weather, altitude, and trip details while offering entertainment options making the journey feel as considered as the destination.
InnerSpace
The Cadillac InnerSpace took all the experience insights from the SocialSpace and PersonalSpace and refined them. Designed as an autonomous coupe for two, it replaces the traditional windshield with a sweeping panoramic LED display that immerses passengers in curated content, biometric feedback, and the landscape beyond through forward-facing cameras embedded in the digital grille.
The Cadillac OpenSpace rounded out the portfolio with a vision of autonomous travel at its most expansive. Designed for extended journeys into nature, the vehicle transforms once at rest by expanding its central living spaces and opening access to a rooftop deck. Exclusive resort partnerships extended the experience beyond the vehicle itself, connecting passengers to curated destinations that matched the refinement of the journey that brought them there.
Across all four vehicles, the Halo Portfolio represents one of the most ambitious autonomous experience programs in the automotive industry and a rare opportunity to design human connection into the future of mobility from the ground up. Leading that experience from initial research through live demonstration shaped how I think about the relationship between technology, space, and the people interacting with both.
